Sept 17 Delafield

Due to still having residual pain from a root canal with an abscess this past week, including side affects from the medications for the pain, I did not plan on any riding yesterday. Which was the warmer day for the weekend, but today there wasn’t any chance of rain after the early a.m. Also, Kevin was busy yesterday preparing for hunting season on his folks land. So, today was the day, but we also wanted to get back early enough to hit the Friends of Lakeside Park’s Food Truck Festival as well.

With that said, we decided to leave kind of early, 9:30ish, and I had planned a route the night before to Delafield for a breakfast stop at Fishbone’s Cajun and Creole.

I met Kevin at his place shortly after 9 and it was a wee bit chilly starting off, but luckily it was sunny for the most part on our way to Delafield and the somewhat gusty winds were at our backs. I planned mostly a direct route there until just south of Richfield and then I planned quite a few roads I had never been on before and tried to stay off of any main highways around the area of Hartland.

I think it was between 10:30-11:00 when we arrived and we opted to eat inside since we were a bit chilly and it was so breezy, and as usual, the food was excellent. Especially their coffee which is Valentine’s out of Milwaukee.

From there we headed west and winded around some of the lakes in the area before heading further west and near Watertown before heading north with a stop in Hustisford for gas. By this time the weather was perfect for riding; nice and dry, warmer, but not too warm temps (60s) and although we were heading into the wind, I didn’t really feel it all too much.

Not much for wildlife, except sandhill cranes and turkeys which I missed even though Kevin said they were right along the roadside. However, we did see a lot of maple trees already transforming to deep reds and orange. Also most soybean fields were completely yellow too.

We made such good time that we were actually back to town around 1:30. Plenty of time to hit the Food Truck Festival.
