July 31 Menominee Res

As planned Kevin and I headed out at 8 a.m. for the Menomonee Reservation/Hwy 55 without any other takers.

Due to how far this ride would be, I didn’t plan as many back roads and Kevin removed the gravel/dirt one I found in the Reservation. I even used the GPS view, but apparently didn’t look close enough to it.

We headed out on some of the same roads as yesterday, but only a few. We took Hwy 23 to Hwy 26, then Olden Road to Cty M and Hwy 116 into Omro and up to Winneconne where we took Cty M north and then some frontage roads along Hwy 10, Hwy 45 for a while and more country and county roads into Shawano where we planned to stop for lunch/breakfast since it was close to 11 when we arrived. We initially stopped at the Farm Inn, but they were packed and I heard conflicting wait times up to 50 minutes, so we decided to backtrack and try the Shawano Cafe as the couple next to us in the parking lot had also decided. Not too many places in a touristy town to eat and I’m sure as everywhere, they don’t have enough help to handle being that busy. We were lucky enough not to wait very long at the Cafe.

From there we were off to the Reservation with a stop at Keshena Falls. When we left there was nobody ahead of us so we were able to fly through the twisties. That is just before our planned turn off onto Cty M heading west when we came up on a truck and camper. Good timing! I planned this instead of taking Hwy 55 all the way to Langlade because the only real way to get back from there is to head over to Hwy 32 which would be extremely busy on a Sunday. We didn’t even pass one car on Cty M, how fun was that! I told Kevin, I suppose because it goes from nowhere to nowhere. Well, to Neopit. Again, from nowhere to nowhere. Haha!

From there we took some country and county roads to get back to Hwy 55 into Shawano. One road which was 3 miles of gravel, but it was packed pretty good.

We took Cty CC out of Shawano and some other roads before taking Hwy 156 to Hwy 187 into Schiocton, Cty MM into Hortonville and eventually getting back onto Hwy 76 into Oshkosh with a planned stop for ice cream at Ardy & Ed’s. With it being the last day of EAA we didn’t except anything really going on, but much to our surprise when we got near Ardy’s, not too far from the airport, there were fighter jets going out just overhead and partially over Lake Winnebago. That was very awesome! I just love how loud they are and how much you can feel the engines as fly overhead.

Today was over 200 miles as expected and I have to admit I was feeling a bit wiped out from it, including it was quite a bit warmer than yesterday as well. Had an awesome time and weekend of riding!
