Easter in Winona

Since I had off for Good Friday I made plans to head to Winona that day for my Easter weekend visit with Canders and to visit Dad’s resting place, with every intention of getting Candy up close to his gravesite since we haven’t been able to do so yet because of weather, etc.

First I had breakfast with my good friend Emily to catch up before heading out. On my way there I got irritated with some drivers not maintaining a steady speed, causing me to keep turning off my cruise control. So, I decided to get past all of them. While doing so I came upon a state trooper taking radar in the median. Well just as I was passing him, even though I had backed off, he began to pull out. He worked his way between myself and the car behind me and proceeded to turn his lights on. When he spoke to me he asked if I knew why he was pulling me over, I said yes. He asked if I was in a hurry or running late. I said no and that I didn’t realize I was clipping along that fast. After providing my license and insurance he already told me he was only going to give me a warning, but ran my info. When he came back he verified it was a warning and to have a good day. Whew! I sure wore the appropriate top today!

I arrived in Winona around 3:15 and stopped by their memorial tree before making it to the house. That evening Candy made a nice dinner and we just chatted, no TV. The next day was when we planned to go to Dad’s grave and have our Easter dinner that night, so I could leave early on Sunday to head home by noon for a ride with friends that afternoon.

I began the morning with a walk around both lakes at Lake Park and also another stop by the memorial tree. After looking online to see how many miles that was, it turned out to be 5.5 which seemed accurate based on the fact I have walked Road America (4 miles) in an hour and it took me around an hour and a half.

After that I when I arrived back at the house Canders was up and ready to go. I loaded her wheelchair into the car and off we went for Preston Veteran’s Cemetery. It was such a beautiful day and we ended up spending around 2 hours by Dad’s gravesite. It was so nice to finally get her up close and personal so she could touch his stone and not just look at it from the car.

That evening she made an exceptional roast and dinner for our Easter meal, and again we just chatted, no TV. Since I planned on leaving at 8 the next day, Easter morning, and because we didn’t think she would be awake yet, we said our goodbyes before I headed to bed.

So glad I was able to spend time with her and at Dad’s gravesite!
