April 4 Horicon Marsh

Although it was Easter Sunday and I had gone to Winona for the weekend, I decided to come home this morning to be home around noon so I could go ride with a couple of friends this afternoon. Candy and I visited Dad’s grave the day before and had our Easter dinner last night as well.

I decided the night before that Kevin and I would meet Alan in Kewaskum and then to Jug’s Hitching Post for a later lunch, but it occurred to me early morning that they might not be open due to the holiday, and they weren’t. Including many places, but Kevin called Sand Piper Inn on Lake Bernice while I was gassing up in Kewaskum and they were serving family style broasted chicken dinner until 3 p.m. So, that is where we headed and it was very good.

From there we headed over to Saint Killian Heights Road with hopes to get a glimpse of Holy Hill, as I did a lot when I drove through there for work. However, it was too hazy to see it. From there it was much like the last ride I took last season with Kevin, through Theresa Marsh, along the Rock River to Mayville, then to Horicon Marsh.

I really wanted some ice-cream so we headed into Horicon, but the ice-cream shop there was closed. So, then to Fox Lake, which I already drove through on my way home from Winona, and noticed Karen’s wasn’t open then, but remained hopeful she may have opened up later in the day. Not the case! We tooled around the lake on some dead-end roads before heading back towards home through Waupun. Shortly after that is when we dropped off from Alan to avoid going through the Marsh since it was so windy. I just hate having to almost side-saddle my bike and lean just to go straight. Ugh!

According to Kevin’s map, 120 miles and it felt oh so good!
