May 28 Lake Mills

Last night I whipped up a route to take us to Lake Mills for today and we had already decided to leave earlier than yesterday so we could get back in time to hit the food truck event at Lakeside park; and I didn’t even bother to post anything to the FB group page because my guess is that everyone was already busy with plans for the holiday weekend since nobody showed interest for yesterday’s ride.

I quickly changed after my early morning meeting at Lakeside Park and headed over to Kevin’s for a change because I planned for us to take Hwy 45 south near his end of town. I think it was shortly after 9 when I arrived at his place.

As we were leaving town on 45 just coming up the first big log-leg heading south there was a county sheriff parked at the crest of it on Cty K, and as we approached another sheriff showed up, pulled alongside it and we thought, great they’re just getting together for a chat. Nope! The second one decided to continue on, following us. Bummer, as that is one of my favorite roads to go a bit faster on with nice sweeping curves. Well, they followed us all of the way until we turned off onto Hwy 67, but luckily they didn’t follow us as we thought they might since we were near the county line.

We stayed on Hwy 67 for quite a ways south of Iron Ridge before taking Cty CW west and some back roads into Oconomowoc and then Cty E to B all of the way to Lake Mills. I originally planned for us to go to some cafe there, but changed my mind to try Doyles Dogs downtown and it was pretty good. I think it was just around noon when we got there.

From there we continued on Cty B west and then hooking up on some back roads heading north to Hwy 89 north into Waterloo. From there we took pretty much all back roads north and around Beaver Dam before taking Cty E east to Hwy 26 north, then Cty I north to Hwy 49 east, Wild Goose Rd to Cty Z north and Cty B/D into and out of Oakfield back to town.

Today was most certainly a speed run to get back early, except for when the sheriff was following us. Hah! So, no stopping for photos today. It really wasn’t as scenic as yesterday’s ride anyways.

Another gorgeous day for a ride and I was glad to be back early because I had been awake since 4 a.m. today.
