May 14-17 New York

On May 14th I flew out for a trip to our New Rochelle NY location. I have never been to New York so I asked other employees for suggestions on hotel and transportation. I was told to use Uber from LaGuardia airport in Queens to get to our location. First time for me using Uber too. I downloaded their app prior to my trip. It was cloudy and overcast when I landed into LaGuardia, but was able to get some okay photos of New York and Manhattan. After I claimed my luggage I was quickly approached by a man with his cell phone in hand, asking if I needed a taxi. I was going to put in my Uber request when I got to ground level pick up, however I told him yes and he told me to follow him and took my suitcase. An unmarked black SUV pulled up and he put my luggage in the back seat. A woman was behind the wheel and asked me to put in my hotel address into her phone’s GPS. After we got out of the airport I felt that we were going in the wrong direction, so I opened my map app and put in the hotel’s address and to my relief we were going in the correct direction based on traffic and bridges.

On Thursday evening some of the staff from our location took us presenters for their meeting the next day out for a very nice dinner at Hurley’s Steakhouse in downtown New Rochelle.

On Friday our off-site meeting was scheduled at The Apawamis Club in Rye NY. I was really impressed by the scenery at the golf course and area. Photos below.

I flew back with a co-worker who had rented a vehicle and had the same flight as me, so she drove us to LaGuardia. We had to wait a really long time after our Avis shuttle for the airport shuttle and then ran into very heavy traffic congestion. We ended up getting off the shuttle at the gate before ours and hoofed it the rest of the way since it would be quicker. Then we hustled through our safety checks. I have TSA pre-check, but she didn’t and so we had to get split up for a bit. We made it to our gate just before boarding was supposed to take place, only to receive messages indicating our flight was delayed. Not trying to be negative Nelly, although usually true, I said “you know what that means? Probably more delays”. And sure enough it was delayed again from 6:10 to 6:34. I got home around 9:45 p.m. and wiped out. Hopefully next time I can get someone to go with me one evening via the train into the City for some sight-seeing.
