June 26 Wild Rose

I posted to the FDL Motorcycle Riding Group page about planning a ride for today with only one taker, Kevin. So I planned a route Thursday evening after he and I went for a little ride for dinner. My plan was to head to Wild Rose and take as many back/new roads as possible, including some other favorites.

We started from my place around 10:30 and it was good I planned the route for mostly back roads since it was extremely windy and not much fun on the open highways. Especially when semis would pass by.

We took a stop for a stretch by the old quarry in Red Granite and then for fuel before heading to Wild Rose. I originally had planned for us to stop for lunch at Roseville in Wild Rose, but I wanted to see about trying something different and for sure didn’t want to stop at the bar with the nice deck overlooking the water because we have had such terrible luck there just about every time. That is when I noticed a bar across the street from there, Sluggers. I asked the bar tender how long they had been open and he said 25 years. I told him I was surprised all the years of riding through there I had never noticed it and he mentioned something about their sign being down. Anyway, they had exceptional burgers and fast service.

From there we took Cty AA west and north which is a very fun and curvy road. Then some more back roads south of Waupaca, into Poy Sippi and Omro. Where we stopped at the Cheese House for ice cream. We both were surprised that we had never stopped there before during our travels through Omro, but I chalked it up to that we probably weren’t ready for ice cream at that point heading through there, or we had already had some if it was on our way back home. They also have my favorite, Cedar Crest.

From there we took one of my favorites as well, Cty M. It has lots of swooping curves where you don’t need to slow down at all except for one almost 90 degree curve.

What a super fun day and super nice weather, except for the wind.
