Aug 1 Big Falls

Last weekend was super sticky and hot so I opted for swimming instead of riding. However, this Sunday (today) was going to have much more comfortable dew points and only in the 70s. So I asked Kevin if he would like to go for a ride and I planned a route to go through Wisconsin Rapids, Stevens Point and over to Big Falls before heading back home.

On our way there we went through Ripon and seen some of the aftermath of damages from last Wednesday evening’s storms. Lots of tree damage as we had heard on the news. We got off of Hwy 23 when leaving Princeton taking Cty J west to Cty B north and then hopped on Hwy 21. While we were on Hwy 21 a truck and car were pretty much riding Kevin’s butt, when we just happened to come up on Ship Rock. So that was a perfect opportunity for a stretch, photo and to get away from them. Cause they clearly weren’t going to pass us either when they had a chance.

From there we took Cty Z along the Wisconsin River to Nekoosa where we planned to stop for lunch or breakfast. The place we were looking for wasn’t there anymore and we stopped at the Nekoosa Cafe for breakfast. Apparently we have not yet shaken our horrible luck with places to eat this year. Our waitress was colder than a witch’s tit to us right from the get-go. Then we realized several tables that were seated after us were already getting their food and it was around 45 minutes since we had ordered ours. Kevin finally asked her about ours when she was starting to serve the booth next to us who also sat much later than us. She said she would check on it and bam… she came out with Kevin’s and then mine shortly after that. She never came back to ask how it was and just put our tab on the table without saying a word. She’s lucky she got the dollar something Kevin gave her!

From there we headed up on Old Hwy 73 along the WI River to Wisconsin Rapids and then took Hwy 66 and Cty P to Point. We continued on Hwy 66 out of Point and eventually got on Cty C heading east to Big Falls, where we stopped for a needed stretch and some more photos.

From there we took Cty E south out of Big Falls into Waupaca and a bunch of back roads Kevin planned out which we’ve never been on before. Then onto Hwy 10 for a bit, but when we got off to continue on Cty II there was a convoy of old military vehicles going only around 45 mph. So we got back onto Hwy 10 to Hwy 45 into Oshkosh where we made a much needed stop again for a stretch, some water and this time ice-cream at Ardy & Ed’s. Yum!

Another 200 plus mile ride today. Of course now that I have gotten used to the longer rides without really getting sore, our season is somewhat drawing closer to an end. I sure do hope that we have an exceptional Fall this year.
