June 20 Port Washington

I tried to see if anyone was available to ride yesterday since it was supposed to be the nicer day weather-wise for the weekend. However, I didn’t have any takers, but had one for today (Mark). With the pending rain for the afternoon we opted to head out around 9 a.m. and we talked about going to Port. So, I roughed out a route for there and back today.

Although I do not have a GPS, we pretty much stayed on track with the route I had planned there.

When we arrived we walked down to the harbor to go out to the lighthouse. Only to find the last section of it was closed for repairs. I also noticed that they had torn down the restaurant that was near there which I thought was also the yacht club and in its place they’re building a high-rise of sorts.

After that we walked downtown to find some lunch at Shooner Pub since Mark was thinking of getting a burger. Also, I was just at Yummy Bones the last time I was in Port.

While we were eating lunch and even after when we walked back to the bikes, neither of us could get a signal to see how close the rain was on the radar. So, I called Kevin and he sent me a screen shot. It was looking pretty inevitable that we would get caught in it at some point on our way home, but I shortened up our route home a bit in an effort to not be in it for too long.

Eventually when we were near Armstrong it started. We made a stop by Baker’s Cheese and I told Mark I was just going to go back on Old Fourth Street Road and through town.

We were pretty soaked by the time we made our last stop before splitting up and I made sure to thank him for joining me today. I didn’t care that I got soaked since it felt so good to get out on the bike and not miss another day of riding!

I lost my map after I got home while wiping the bike down. So, I re-created it the best I could and I do not know how many miles, but I suspect around 100.
