May 15 Merrimac (Not)

Originally it was supposed to be sunny and in the 70s both Saturday and Sunday, so I planned a route for today to go to the Merrimac Ferry with a couple of takers. Well, Mother Nature handed yet another blow by the time the weekend rolled around and there were spotty showers in the area and cloudy. One of our riders cancelled, but Brad was still game to go.

The radar was looking good towards that direction and the sun was out a bit when we left. We got sprinkled on just before and after Oakfield. When we stopped after going down Breakneck Road, we agreed to at least go to Fox Lake for lunch at Karen’s as planned, but not to attempt going to the Ferry.

Just before getting to Fox Lake we ran into some pretty good rain, and then it stopped before getting to Karen’s

From there we decided to head west on Hwy 33, then north on Hwy 73 to 44. We made a pit stop in Markesan and conitued on 44 to Brandon where we made another pit stop at the park before heading home on Cty T.

While on Cty T I was looking over at a really nice house and when I turned back to the road there was a small bird (possibly sparrow) right in front of my visor with its wings spread, but I never felt it hit me. When we stopped Brad said it looked as though it did hit me. It must have just got spun around from the turbulence. Hah, I hope it was okay. Me and the birds?!?! Why always a bird? Hah again!

Only 90 miles today.
