Dad's 83rd Birthday

On Saturday, September 7th we had planned a trip to Winona to have an early birthday celebration with our Dad. His 83rd birthday was September 9th. Lori and Vanessa picked me up around 7:30. Unfortunately Candy had a fall that Tuesday and was hospitalized with a fractured hip and badly bruised knee. On Friday they transported her to the nearest home/rehab facility for physically therapy to help her walk again. Closest place with an opening was in Caledonia; an hour south from Winona. So we stopped by her first on our way to Winona. From there we went straight by Dad at his nursing home. He was having a really good day and in a great mood. We called Candy so that he could talk to her and took him out on the terrace. After that we went to the house where we found one extremely lonely cat (Lucky) who was so very happy to see us. The neighbors had been checking on him and giving him water and food, but Denise is allergic to cat dandruff so I am sure he had been missing some really good loving.

The next day was dreary, a little rainy and very cool, but the three of us still took a walk around the small lake along the highway and visited Garvin Heights before picking up Dad’s birthday ice-cream cake and to see him for an early birthday celebration. He was having another really good day again. Yay! After opening his gifts, cologne and rock garden, we chowed down the ice-cream cake. That was our lunch. Dad and I ate one and half pieces and we packed one for Candy in a cooler since we were going to see her again on our way home. By the time we got by Candy in Caledonia her cake was pretty soupy even though Lori packed it in her cooler with ice. We left there for home around 3ish and I got home until 7:30.

Great to be able to spend some time with Lori and Vanessa and to celebrate Dadder’s birthday and see Canders.
