September 24 Port

Scott and I had planned to take a ride to Port Washington this afternoon with hopes to see the salmon spawning as we had around the same time there several years ago. I met up with him at his place around noon and we took a more direct route there since we also hadn’t eaten lunch yet. When we arrived we parked around the harbor and took a look to see if the salmon were present there, but they weren’t and the fishermen said they weren’t catching anything today. So walked over to Yummy Bones for lunch. After that we walked down over by the river channel near the power plant since that is usually a hot spot for them to be spawning. No luck there either and the fishermen there said they weren’t catching anything either. We walked around the harbor a little more before heading out. From Port we took Cty H north to Cty I and ended up over on Hwy 28 to Cty F into Dundee where we stopped for some ice-cream at the Hamburger Haus. From there we split up, Scott taking 67 back home and I continued on Cty F to Hwy 45 back to Fondy. I think I put in around 120 miles today.

Scott sent me a photo after he got home to show me what he’d been up since the ride. He ended up untangling a couple of bucks in the woods by his place and apparently the smaller one was already dead (see photo below). This is what retired folks do in Wisconsin… hah! And this is a good reminder for all motorcyclists that the deer are starting their rut. So be on the lookout and stay alert!

Because Kevin wasn’t along I tried using an old app I have before for mapping, Raah. However, it kept draining my cell phone life so I had to turn it off when we stopped, and I forgot to turn off airplane mode when we left Port so I am missing a leg of the route. I will need to look into some other alternatives for mapping in the future.
