June 10 Breakfast/Kettles

Weather wasn’t supposed to be all that great for riding this weekend, but today was going to be the best out of the two days with more rain chances on Sunday. Plus much cooler and breezy on Sunday as well. So, I threw out a ride to go to the Washington or Ozaukee County breakfast on the farm and then ride some more before we were supposed to get rain on Saturday. Well, Kevin was the only taker and with that said, I met him again at his place since that was direction we’d be leaving town from.

We left by 8:30 a.m. and took Hwy 45 into Kewaskum and then Hwy 28 to Kettle Moraine Drive south, and then back roads around West Bend and into Newburg. The farm (Roden) was located on Cty Y south of Newburg and when we got close to it, traffic was at a rolling stop. We sat in that rolling stop traffic for around half an hour before making it to the farm field for parking. Although they had a designated area for motorcycle parking, it was on part of the field which had very deep ruts and on an incline. I’m guessing whoever decided that was a good spot doesn’t own a motorcycle.

We proceeded to get into the huge line of people and realized we’d be there for at least two hours and there was rain heading our way on the radar. So, we decided to just find some place for breakfast in Grafton. The ruts were so bad when we left, I had to ask Kevin to help get my bike out of that area, as I couldn’t touch the ground half of the time. So after all of that waiting on the bikes and off-roading was for nothing. I didn’t care though because I preferred to spend more of my time riding.

We ended up at the Flipside Cafe & Grill and the food was an excellent, and very nice place.

From there we took Cty W north along the Milwaukee River into and out of Saukville then east over Hwy 57/43 before heading north again, eventually making it into and out of Fredonia. Apparently, the pending rain was kind of breaking up so I kept going  north off of our planned route and told Kevin he could kill it on the GPS. We found some really good roads we’ve never been on before. One in particular was Trout Spring Road west of Hwy 28 near the Kettle Moraine. Then we eventually hooked up on Cty F west where we dropped into the Northern Kettle Moraine on Scenic Drive and took it all the way to Greenbush, and onto Glenbeulah before heading back towards town through Mt. Calvary and St. Peter.

Don’t know whatever happened to the rain, except that we managed to stay west of it and that it also fizzled out, but we way okay with that. Not much for photo stops since we were trying to stay away from the rain which we kept thinking was near by. However, still managed to put in over 100 miles.
