May 16 Long Way to Hartford

Today was supposed to pretty decent. However a little cooler than yesterday’s balmy 70s and sunny. Today sixties, breezy and increasing clouds, but tomorrow is going to be a total wash out. So I planned a route last night for Kevin and I with the intent to meet my Sista and girls at their new place in Hartford later in the afternoon.

We left my place shortly after ten a.m. and it was a bit chilly. Based on my planned route, we should arrive in Princeton around noon, so we were going to see if the VFW had a brat fry, otherwise we knew from a previous stop there on the bikes this season that the A&W in the BP was open for at least drive through. Well no brat fry so A&W it was. My first time ever taking my bike through a drive-thru for food. The gal working there said it was a first for her too, to serve a bike. It is the only place besides maybe some bars in their little downtown or Kwik Trip to get food. Thankfully Kevin has saddles and a trunk, and so we put our food in one of those and then proceeded to the NEBAT picnic table by the Fox River to eat.

From there we headed to Montello and we stopped at the the waterfalls there to take some photos and stretch before the next leg of my route to Hartford.

We rode all of the way from there to Lowell without any stops, but by the time we made it there I was ready for a stretch. From there we headed directly to Hartford on Hwy 16/60.

My Sista had a DQ ice-cream cake for us and that was very nice even though after we left there the sun was gone and quite chilly on the bikes. It was getting kind of late too by the time we left there so we decided to forego my original planned route to go through parts of the Kettle Moraine before making it home and we just ended up taking Hwy 83 & 175 back to town.

Kevin and I split just before getting into town and about a 1/4 mile from my place I came very close to taking out a hen or Jake turkey that was crossing the road in front of me. Luckily I saw it just in time to slow down and it also picked up its pace as well. I don’t have a huge issue if I hit a bird, been there, done that, but not if it is a turkey!
