For today, Labor Day, I hadn’t thought out any possible places to go until after I spoke to Kevin on the phone in the morning, and the weather was going to gorgeous today. So, I whipped up a smaller route to Jug’s for lunch and then onto Horicon for cream at The Ice Cream Station.
We met at Baker’s and I took Hwy 23 to get to G to save some time, and sure enough, Kevin was already at Baker’s doing figure eights. I still could not get that camera to pick me up for the one lane construction right there, and had to blow the red light once again. From there we took G south to Cty B west, then Cty W south to Hwy 45 south. However, when we got to Waucusta, Kevin missed our turn onto SSS, so he took the next left to do a loop to Cty F to get back to Hwy 45. Never been on those roads before.
We made a pit stop for me in Campbellsport and then 67 south to Cty W south and some roads west of Lake Bernice and I am pretty sure I had not been on some of those before either. Eventually getting onto BB south and entering the back way into Jug’s Hitching Post. We got there just as they were opening and the patio was closed due to the bees. They at least didn’t have the A/C cranking, but then they turned on an industrial fan near our table. Oh well! We shared their Bronco Burger and waffle fries, which was super good and just the right amount of food. I was full!
From there we took Cty D west to Cty W south to 33 just outside of Allenton. Neither of us could remember taking that stretch of W before, so another new stretch of road. From Allenton we took W south again before taking Crooked Road, and then a bunch of country roads around the north side of Hartford, and as much as I thought I was avoiding construction, we ended up having to take some of it for a little bit, but it was just chewed up surface. Not gravel, or much!
We eventually took Hwy 60 west and then some back roads taking us up into Horicon from the south. One Saint Helene’s Road, which was another one I have never been on before.
It wasn’t super busy at the Station and we ate our cream outside, watching a bunch of kids having fun. I told Kevin I didn’t mind hearing them as it was very entertaining and not like a baby crying, or screaming, etc.
From there we took some back roads to pop in to say “hi” to Kevin’s parents south of Mayville, but they weren’t home.
I had initially planned on following Kevin home to wash my bike since he still has my pitbull stand and packed my cleaning stuff and clothes in my panniers, but I felt so tired, that I decided to head home with hopes of a nap. This knee pain I have been having seems to really drain me, but luckily, it doesn’t bother me when I am on the bike.
This time Kevin only followed me up to Cty B, where he stayed on 175 north to Fondy, and I took B through Eden and Armstrong where I met up with a bunch of motorcycles crossing 67 on Cty G. Probably eight or more. The last two were gals, one on a black crotch rocket stopped and they were going to wait for me, but I waved them through so they could stay with their group. And this time before getting to that one lane construction light at Baker’s, I took the road heading east just before that which connected to Division Road north up to Cty T. Again some new roads for me! From there I took Cty T in and out of Greenbush, then Cty A through Glenbeulah and staying on Cty C to Cty J crossing 67, and Cty E again today, but this time I took Gerber Lake Drive which I’ve never been on before and crossed 57, and then eventually got onto Garton Road back home to Grove.
Today was a much shorter ride, with only 156 miles for me, but it certainly was a much better day weather-wise!
