Yesterday was a bit dreary with some mist and chances for rain, and I was completely beat from our company’s Summer Picnic Thursday, so I opted to bow out from riding and instead go today when it was supposed to be better weatherize.
Earlier in the week Kevin shared a link with me that they completed the revitalization project on the lighthouse in Port Washington, and since it was supposed to be extra sticky and warm, I planned out a route to there for lunch with a walk out to it, and then onto Cedar Crest plant and parlor in Manitowoc.
Also, since there were possible chances with rain in the morning, I did not open it up to others because I have been taxed out on trying to coordinate any plans with anyone with no luck or just being that person. Especially after most of the planning for events at work.
It was foggy and misty when I woke up, but I knew that was supposed to lift. I told Kevin I could be at formerly Baker’s Cheese near Armstrong around 10, and that is the time we met up there. He, of course, was practicing his figure eights in their lot when I arrived.
On our way to Port we ran into one detour, Cty I or II, which was pure construction gravel and I will not do that. So, we ended up taking 57 south to 144 south for a while before getting back on our original planned route. I also intended for us to eat at Inventor’s Brewery in Port, but decided we should try Dockside Deli instead for something different and it was super good! I also need to keep in mind for the future, that they have Cedar Crest ice-cream.
After that we walked out to the lighthouse and by this time the clouds were breaking up and it was getting quite warm with the high dew points. I was especially appreciating the beautiful clouds though, that were still around with anticipation for my skydive tomorrow. They were gorgeous! When we left there, we were both a bit overheated, but needed gas. The Mobile near the interstate wasn’t accepting our cards at the pump, so we backtracked to the BP and as usual, the card reader thought my credit card was a loyalty card and wouldn’t let me pay at the pump. I was so frustrated as this has happened at many BPs over the past few years, and because I was really warm with the gear. So, I ended up having to go inside and pre-pay.
From there the road we were going to take was closed due to the Vantage data center consuming it, along with 100s of acres of land, and we ended up taking LL for a bit and that one gravel road which runs north and south. It is a solid gravel, but with constant indentations from the snow plows, I could not take it very fast. Eventually we made it to Sheboygan and drove along the lakefront before connecting to Lakeshore to Manitowoc.
We got really lucky at Cedar Crest since the line wasn’t very long and a table inside was available so we could sit in the A/C. While we were eating our cream, I noticed some type of cover over the cow out front and here it was an ad for Sputnikfest, which I helped submit a sponsorship for through my company.
From there we took back roads to just west of Grove where we split up and this time he had the longer drive home, and I asked how it felt to be Tammy? He didn’t like it much since it was getting kind of late and we were both overheated. I actually took a cool-down shower when I got home.
Only 164 miles for me today, and even though it was so sticky warm, it was still a great day of riding adventures!
