Sept 27 Fairwater

Previous

It has been 20 days since I’ve been on the bike. Although Kevin was gone the past two weekends, the weather wasn’t very nice for riding around here either. Low 60s, windy or rainy. And although yesterday was gorgeous, I attended the visitation, funeral service, burial and luncheon afterwards for our dear Bunco member, Janet Furtak. While Kevin planned on being in the woods yesterday, so our day to ride was today. It was supposed to be about as warm today, except a bit cloudy. I had opened it up to others, however, they already had commitments or something come up. Making it just Kevin and I.

I quickly whipped up a route this morning for lunch at The Roost in Fairwater and then north of Ripon before heading back.

Kevin and I met around 11ish at Baker’s and headed south and then west making our way to Fairwater. I made the mistake of wearing my airflow jacket with a t-shirt, but it was sunny and nice over by me when I left. So, at times it was down right chilly with the cloud coverage. However, we were gifted with spectacular views all day of wispy almost what looked like air-brushed clouds in the sky. And although there were some pockets of spectacular fall foliage, most places were sparsely changing.

The Roost was kind of busy when we were there, but I am sure not nearly as much as they would have been if the Packers were playing and our burgers were excellent!

I received quite the dusting on and off throughout the day being behind Kevin and taking so many country roads covered in mud from farmers who had harvested for silage or other crops. Boo hoo!

We seen many Red Tailed Hawks throughout the day, including some turkeys with their polts.

And, we had talked about hitting Kelley’s but it was a little bit out of our way. However, we were going to pass right by Spoonlickers in Armstrong, and after changing my mind a few times, I eventually decided I needed some Cedar Crest since I haven’t been eating even my low cal cream at home with all of my knee and leg issues the past few months. Lucky for me my knee and leg doesn’t bother me at all on the bike or even when I first get off of it.

From Lickers, we headed east on 67 and entered the Scenic Drive north through the Kettles and Kevin hanged with me all of the way north on Cty S into Glenbeulah before we split apart to go our separate ways.

I was determined to find some colors, and stopped at Mill Pond and took some roads I usually see some early in the season, but not much luck. Except by the Sheboygan River, and then I took some country roads so that I could stop and snap a few pictures of the spectacular clouds. The one picture below of the filtered sun is pretty much what we were dealing with most of the day, which is why it was a bit chilly at times. Especially when it was on our backs!

Although a bit chilly at times, it felt soooo good to finally get back out on the bike, and since the weather wasn’t exceptional, we didn’t have to share the roads with much traffic. Not even many other motorcycles were out either.

Now I am hoping for some good weather the next couple of weekends, as I am sure we’re going to hit peak very soon for colors.
