I had a hard time finding someone to ride with today, but I actually wasn’t planning on it for a while during the week due to a stationary low weather system in our area causing predictions of rain almost every day, and as of yesterday they finally took the rain out in southern Wisconsin. Luckily, Brad was up for a small ride. So, I suggested a late morning meet with lunch at Jug’s Hitching Post, and he was up for that.
I headed out shortly after 10 and ran around and thru Quit Qui Oc gold course in Elkhart and just in the short distance along the course on a road with a canopy of trees, I had a doe standing there staring at me until I blew my horn, then a chippy ran across the road, then a cat, and then a squirrel. Haha! Most eventful 100 yards of the day. Oh, and then when I was by the clubhouse, a gal from work with another lady on a golf cart had to wait for me to pass. Don’t think she knew it was me, but I will tell her when I seen her at work.
The chip seal roads around Glen were pretty well compacted by now and not nearly as dusty, and I took Cty T to Baker’s Cheese where we planned to meet. I, of course, was early but not by too much. When Brad showed up I told him of the roads I intended to take to give him an idea of our route to Jug's.
We took Cty G south to Cty B west, then Vista Road south, to Airport Rd west, to Cty F west, 45 south to Triple S south which joins Hwy 67 just outside of Campbellsport. I could swear that I have never been on this section of Triple S before as nothing looked familiar and when I planned the route last night, I thought gee I’ve never noticed this road before off of 45 south of Waucousta. Very nice road! From there we took Cty W south, to Elmore Road south and west, and then Cty BB/W south into Kohlsville to Jug’s. Surprisingly there weren’t any other bikes there and they weren’t very busy. We enjoyed the patio and ate outside by the waterfall and fireplace.
During lunch we talked about where to possibly stop for cream after leaving there, but I really didn’t want to make that stop right away. We thought about Scoop DeVille in Hartford, Sweet Pea’s in Mayville and then I mentioned there was a new place in Brownsville, so we decided on that.
We took Cty D west to Hwy 175 south and I was going to shoot over on some roads west just north of Hartford when I realized I was getting a bit low on gas, so thought I would head to Slinger and fuel up there, which we did and then we took 175 north back to Cty DW west where I was hoping to run into a train bridge I’ve been by over that way before, but I think we would have needed to go further beyond Cty P and since it was getting a little late for Brad to get home by 4, I opted to take P north into Theresa and then 175 north to Cty H west and then Y north into Brownsville.
The new place is Triple Scoop and they serve Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, and there was some type of special, probably for either Dad’s or for Father’s Day in general, sponsored by Mueller Farms, paying for all double scoops. So, Brad’s ice cream was free, as I only ordered a single dish of This $&@! Just Got Serious. We sat on their porch eating our cream as it was such a beautiful day and seen a guy we knew moving the lawn at the dental office across the street.
I had intentions of stopping by Mark’s before heading home since I was so close to Fondy, and as he mentioned when he rode with me last weekend that my chain needs to be tightened, and he said he’d be home later this afternoon. We took Cty Y north to Old Hickory Street Road into Fondy where we split up and I headed to Mark’s. While at Mark’s he also checked my tire pressure. Then off I went taking the usual roads home, Hwy 45 to Cty K to Cty T, and then Cty J/P out of Glen to Cty J east to Cty E north and then Garton back to Grove.
I forgot to turn on my tracker until I met Brad at Baker’s and then I inadvertently turned it off in Brownsville, but I know based on my odometer that I was close to, if not just over 150 miles. It most certainly was the best day of the weekend weather wise, so I am extra happy it worked out for someone to join me today!
