July 13 Lake Mills

For today I planned a route for Kevin and I to Lake Mills and he chose Doyle’s Dogs for our lunch stop there. I also wanted to get going a little earlier in an attempt to make it back home earlier than yesterday, as that was a long day. So, not really many scenic places as yesterday either.

We met up in Greenbush around 9ish and traveled from there west on T to G south and then some back roads: Lake View west, F west, SSS south into Campbellsport, W west and south to D west, 175 south, 33 west, 67 south, 60 west and R and E south, and then B west into Lake Mills. It was pretty uneventful ride there, but after 250 miles yesterday, I was ready to get off the bike by that time; when we arrived at Doyle’s.

While we were at Doyle’s I mentioned to Kevin that we had eaten at one someplace near there or Lake Geneva a couple of years ago, but it was located downtown. So, I looked at my website and sure enough, it was in Lake Mills. Apparently they have two locations there, but this one only has outside dining and a very large, nice outside dining area. We stopped to fuel up in Lake Mills before heading west again on Cty B which turns into BB, and I had wanted to stop at a park along the lake there, but it looked pretty busy and with wanting to get home early, it didn’t seem worth it. From BB we took Missouri Road north which was a very nice change vs. taking 73. We did eventually connect to 73 right near Little America in Marshall and took that almost to Columbus, but then more back roads northeast near Beaver Dam, where we found a new wooden bridge we have never been on before. So, that was our photo op stop.

From there we continued on a bunch of back roads into Horicon where we had to stop for my favorite Cedar Crest ice cream at the Ice Cream Station. And since we were so close to Kevin’s parents, we stopped there for a quick visit before continuing on towards Fondy connecting onto 175 north. I broke off from Kevin onto Cty B east through Eden and Armstrong, back onto G north and T east, A northeast, J east, E north (where I seen Barb at her place cleaning up from their camping trip in Berlin) and then onto Garton back to Grove.

As predicted, it was very hazy all day long from the Canadian wildfire smoke and we were even able to smell it a couple of times during the day. Think it irritated my eyes quite a bit too. Although Kevin’s map indicated 217 miles, I checked my odometer and I put in 246. That was a 500 mile weekend for me, and I certainly could feel it! Hah. All well worth it though!
